“Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love.”

The wonderful world of affirmations! I am a huge fan of affirmations and I use them daily, especially when I want to make positive changes in my life or environment. And one of my favourite things to do is to integrate these powerful little sayings into the birth experience (for myself and for my clients). Birth affirmations can really help to mentally prepare your mind and body for labour and they can also be very empowering for when you are actually in labour.

My labour stalled at about 18 hours in with my daughter and I remember the doctor coming into my room to tell me that if I don’t progress further in the next hour or two, I would have to have a c-section to get her out. She wasn’t handling the pitocin very well (and neither was I) but when the doctor shared this information with me it pushed me to start using my affirmations. So I thought back to the few that had really resonated with me and I laid in my bed and meditated on thinking “open” thoughts like, my body is open and I pictured flowers opening and blooming. I probably did this for an hour or two and when the doctor came back in to check on me I had miraculously dilated to 10+! My husband and I were utterly shocked into amazement at how well (and quickly!) my affirmations worked. Needless to say, I am sure my doctor was impressed and a little over an hour later my beautiful daughter entered the world.

So I really do feel that affirmations can be magical and oh so inspiring, so I have spent quite a bit of time creating and compiling some of my favourite birth affirmations that I hope you can use and will love! Feel free to save these for yourself or. you can visit my Pinterest page https://www.pinterest.ca/gioaiello/mindful-mommy-birth-affirmations/and create your own birth affirmation board!

I hope you enjoy these affirmations and if you have any you would love to share, please feel free to comment!

These affirmations are a beautiful reminder of the capabilities of our bodies. We can forget the amazing wisdom and power we have deep within us. These are a great way to bring that knowledge front of mind and feel empowered during birth.

These are great affirmations. My personal favorite when I was birthing was “I can do hard things.”

Sometimes all you need is one word… like “ooooopen”. 🙂

These are beautiful, powerful affirmations, Gio, and love the images. It would be wonderful to print them up and post them around the birthing space. They are powerful reminders to everyone in the room.

I love affirmations in preparation for birth! There are always many people instilling doubt and fear when it comes to pregnancy and childbirth and these are a great way to ensure we stay focused on the amazing things our bodies are capable of.
